“The Wolverine” Takes The Top Spot This Week, Allen’s “Blue Jasmine” Hailed By Critics

Among the movies that have done well at the box office, Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine has been received well by critics but has also earned almost $612, 767 at the box office so far.

By comparison, The Wolverine still remains the highest-grossing movie. However, the reason why Blue Jasmine has been picked as the winner, over The Wolverine, is in large part due to its per-screen average: $102,128 per screen compared to the latter’s $14,106.

In fact, it’s the best per-screen average of 2013, and reminds one of his ‘Midnight in Paris’ released two years that grossed about $99,003 per screen. Until now, it has remained his top-grossing movie of all time.

Speaking of surprises, The Conjuring, which was in the top spot last week, continued to perform strongly at the box office and just slipped to second place, earning about $83.9 million in all.

As for Despicable Me 2 in third place, it’s in its fourth week and has moved past the $300 million mark, and still is behind Iron Man 3, which is the highest grossing movie of 2013.

And even if The Wolverine has taken the top spot for the week, it isn’t all that, considering that it has no wide release competition. In fact, it was expected to debut at $75 million but only managed to garner $55 million – just a bit lower than the $55.1 million that the last X-Men movie made at the box office.

The other movies, which came in at fourth and fifth place namely Turbo and Grown Ups 2 also did not perform as expected, making $55.8 million and $101.7 million respectively.
